Re: LeMans

Hi all,

Planning on going to LeMans in April for the first time ever with a couple of mates. I've booked a ferry to LeHavre and found hotel acommodation - 120Eros for all three of us for three nights....seems pretty good as long as we don't have to top & tail! Any advice regarding the ride down or good places to visit (as well as those to avoid)? We're going on the Thursday night and returning Monday afternoon - so can get a good nights kip after the race finishes Sunday before riding back to LeHavre.

We do it every year. Great fun. We stay in a Gite south of the circuit. Theres usually about 6-8 of us. We are going out on the Thursday night and back on the Monday afternoon from Le-havre/Portsmouth.

Of late there are a lot of speed traps on the main route. We now avoid the N138 and use the D roads to the west.

Lisieux - Falaise - Carrougas - Villaines - Sille

Then in to Le-Mans on the D304. Le-mans will be full of bikes so it's full of atmosphere. The only problem with the back roads is the lack of other bikes. The N138 can get quite busy. The even do some special bike stops in lay buys on the way down. Watch out for police and camera's if you do the N roads though.

In Le-mans the police stopped us three times last year for breath tests. So it's best no to drink if visiting the track. We get tickets before it starts on the Sat then watch the start. We then head back to the Chateau where madame David does us proud for grub. Then back to the circuit to watch some night racing. Last year and the year before it was 25 Deg C at the circuit. It can rain though, hence the Gite. We then go back to the Gite and hit the local bar to get pissed. They are so used to us now it's great.

It's a great beginning of season run. I have loads of photos from previous trips. Email me.
