Not sure I like vista, it really doesn't seem to actually do anything
better than XP.

I notice Alienware will do me a FOAD laptop with XP, rather than Vista
... should I stick with XP, or is a whole host of Vista stuff going to
rear its head shortly, especially in the games department?

Yep, some games are going the DirectX10 route, which is a vista only
thing.

Thought so ... ok, so if I'm going to "upgrade" to Vista, the purchase
of a FOAD laptop is the time to do it I guess.

No it isn't. The MacBook Pro I've got is pretty much the same spec as
the best you can make on of those Alienwares (8600GT (256Mb) graphics
rather than the 8700GT). I put Vista Ultimate on it when I first got
it and was quite shocked by how slow it felt. I used it for about a
week and got hacked off and put XP Pro on. Now it flies along like I
expect a machine of this spec to do.

Well I've already got XP, so if that's the case I can always revert to
it.

Unless something specifically requires Vista, stick with XP. Oh, and
the top of the range MacBook Pro is cheaper than the Alienware for the
same spec...

Yeah, but it's a Mac, so therefore a bit gay. Plus I hate the way Apple
build stuff.
