Charlie has brought this to us :
We have a trusty old HP LaserJet 6L as a workhorse printer at home, from
identical Dell laptops. It's suddenly stopped working off Charlene's PC,
but still performs perfectly off mine. Going to the HP website to
upgrade the drivers, in case they'd become corrupted, HP are 'unable to
detect' her computer as having any HP printer attached and so cannot
update. I then thought I'd bootleg the drivers from my PC, but find that
I'm unable to delete the relevant files in her driver.cab folder.
It's getting more than a bit of a bind, having her email documents to me
to print. The printer works. The cable works. Any ideas ... apart,
that is, from shit in the carbs and piss in the tank?
Faulty Centronics printer port or wrong settings for the port in the BIOS?
Have you tried another printer with the problem PC. Could it possibly be
that you have worn out/damaged the port with frequent unplugging/plugging
in?
That sounds like the explanation....
