I've actually gone back to using the speakers on my TV for most
programmes, as they just don't justify having the AV amp cranked up,
zapping extra lecky, just to give me slightly better stereo. I do use it
for movies though, and (obviously) DVDs, just not run-of-the-mill telly.

I mean, really, how much power is a solid state AV amp going to
consume?
Approx 3-5 times it's rated power output. Where 3-5 is a value which
depends on how it is designed.
