Excellent, didn't see that coming at all. What's the text at the
end, is it an advert?
For "Hydro" an engineering company in Sweden.
Geographical ignoramus.
Norway.
The advert was in Swedish.
The language spoken is Norwegian, and the written ad is in
Norwegian.
(Det finnes mange små ingeniører. Vi gleder oss til de blir store.)
In Swedish this would look approximately like this:
Det finnas många små ingeniörar.....(My Swedish is not up to the
rest of it.)
The train is in the colours of the Norwegian State Railway Company.
And having worked for Hydro once, I can state that it is a Norwegian
industrial company which was founded to make fertiliser by utilising
the (then) abundant Norwegian hydropower. They started by building
Vemork,
the hydropowerplant at Rukan in 1911, and later branched into making
heavy water. Today Hydro is primarily in production of light metals.
They do have an engineering division, but it is not their prime
priority.
Hands up here John, you're dead right. I only skimmed the vid (well
it's an excuse:) and I just read it and translated it on the fly and
the Norwegian and Swedish languages are pretty close to each other.
My translation was still spot on though.
Your translation of the first sentence is spot on, but the one I find
difficult is the second one. Your is a good approximation, but there
are at least two more possibilities, which is why I didn't take it on,
my English is not quite good enough to get the full set of meanings
across.
Yeah, my translation was a "real world" rather than a literal, but the
message is simple.
These kids are smart and we want them when they're old enough to work.
