I've seen plenty of results of what guns do, you'll be aware. Likely

Well I have seen many bodies with gunshot wounds, hundreds most
likely, though you'll note the lack of the word "human" there.
Without really knowing what you do I couldn't make any comparison
though I do know that civvy contractors attached to the Staff are
rarely right up at point and knowing that the ratio of support staff
to grunts in the military means than many go right through their
careers without ever seeing more than the results of it kicking off
with the town lads. But like I say I can't make any judgement.

I still don't *respect* firearms. It's not possible to respect
something which does not have the ability to *earn* respect.

Darsy made the point that this is only one meaning of the R word.
Wiki makes the point that respect is an attitude of acknowledgment
which I think is the right meaning here.
