Just spoke to MESH and was told ?We won?t send any of our machines out
with 64 bit Vista anymore, they?re all 32s?. ?.. They say that?s
because over half of the ones they sent out with 64 bit were being sent
back because they had so many compatibility problems with drivers and
suchlike.

Personally, I wouldn't let Vista within a mile of any of my computers
until at least SP2.

A bit over the top there. If you consider XP, SP2 wasn't released until
late 2004, by which point 98/ME was really starting to smell bad and
2000 was getting rather long in the tooth. The general rule of thumb for
Microsoft is to wait until SP1 is released before upgrading.

From a server perspective, I've rolled out 2003 Server 64bit with no
noticeable problems, though 2003 is rather more mature than Vista and
servers tend not to have the kinds of random hardware that you'd find on
a desktop box.

I'd be curious as to whether Vista 32bit has any better memory
management than, say, Windows 2003 Server. The latter really starts to
suffer at anything > 2GB (each app only having a 2GB address space) and
the reservations for things like the PCI bus get rather weird - if you
stick 3GB in a box you only get 2.75GB to use and with 4GB it's even
worse with 3.25GB visible to the OS.

Ubuntu do a nice 64-bit version for a very pikey price!

There's always one, isn't there.
