In communiqué <c4XBi.47621$1G1.21701@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, Dave H. <hopefuldave_doesn't_like_spiced_ham_so_remove_this@xxxxxxxxxxx> cast forth these pearls of wisdom
Panasonic Tuffbook, then - we use 'em in racks of kit for the Matelots, with
the screen folded down they can take Naval-Issue boots attached to porky
radio ops climbing all over 'em. Nice sturdy titanium case, shock-mounted
hard drive, waterproof when closed - the biz, would probably survive being
in a pannier that gets decked.
We acquired a top of the range Vaio laptop at work five or six years ago. It had a really hard life including rattling around in an inconspicuous looking non-laptop case when on noise surveillance duties. Never missed a beat until last year when it finally needed Windows (2000) rebuilding.
OTOH my PCV-RZ504 desktop needed a new hard disk at 13 months.
My four year old Vaio laptop is also still going strong without any issues (except that of course by today's standards it is dog slow).
