It pains me to admit it, but, the new iMac and iLife look like pretty
good pieces of stuff.

When my last desktop died, I swore I'd stick with laptops, but 20 inches
of shiny goodness for equivalent £600 is nnnnggggghhh territory.
Put me off. Please.

We've had nothing but Macs for 8+ years now, and I can honestly say that
we've had few problems in that time, apart from a couple of dead HD's,
and a faulty laptop logic board (replaced under warranty).
No re-installs etc. And everything just 'works'. Plug a new camera in,
it asks to download the pics from it, no extra driver installs etc. I've
just synched my 7yo T39 phone with this Mac this morning via Buetooth,
never done it before, but it was so easy, yep, idiot proof.
The only downside was the lack of games at first, though as I've aged,
it seems such a trivial complaint, that it just doesnt bother me now not
being able to buy the latest games.
The plus side is the residual value of the hardware - after 3 years, you
will get 50%+ of the purchase price when you sell on - they do keep
their value much more than a Wintel box.
Oh, and just about all software for common usage is included with the
hardware.
IIRC, I've only paid out for the following progs: FTP tool, page layout
and a newsreader.
I dont know about the current Intel chipped Macs, but my G4 runs X11
apps, so there are 1000's of apps available for free download and
use.The current ones can also be rebooted into Windows if you are
tempted to buy a copy of Windows.
