Just been "buzzed" by the newly refitted City of Lincoln. What a
marvellous sound it makes.
Unfortunately it's not called City of Lincoln any more -- something like
"Bomb the *** out of Germany" ...
... oh hang on here it is: "Phantom of the Ruhr"
http://www.bbmf.co.uk/bomber.html (halfway down the page) "Take that,
Fritz!"
Whilst it's salutary to remember that times were harder than we can
possibly imagine, back in the 1940s, I did wonder how our modern German
friends would view this re-paint job: reminds me of my "Victor" comics!
john (who happened to be passing Coningsby the day they wheeled the
Flight out for the 2007 season: Cor!).
I was at my parents yesterday and they mentioned that the Lancaster had been "booked" to overfly their tiny village as part of the villages 1940s weekend. Sounded unlikely to me, but amazingly it's true - North Thoresby on 9th June, wish I'd known as I would have changed my visiting plans.
