I've killed my PC.
This morning I pulled the beast out from under the desk and did a
defluffing job, very gently, on it. Then I carefully extracted the
graphics card and slipped a new one in ... but couldn't get a power
supply to the new card because the HDDs were in the way. So I took
the graphics card back out again, released the HD cage and moved the
HDDs to the floor of the case. New card back in again, power supply
hooked up to it and back under the desk with it. Reconnected the
connections and fired it up.
But it won't fire up. Won't even start to boot. All that happens is
that there's a faint "bump bump" noise as all the fans do a quarter
turn and the fan LEDs flash on and off, then the fans stop and
repeat. The CPU fan spins up and runs too, but that's it.
Nothing on the monitor, no HDD spinning up, nothing.
WTF have I done - and how do I sort it out?
Does your new graphics card require more power than your old one? If so,
(and it sounds like it) your power supply is either not supplying enough, or
it's borked.
