Serious question - given the choice of a broken arm or say three
years in prison, which would you chose?
But the OP inferred that the limbs were broken then the miscreants
were dropped off with plod, thus getting both barrels, as it
were.....
The best possible result imo (or at least it would be if they were
punished by the courts in any meaningful way[1]), but the question
still stands in a general sense.
I don't have a problem with the violence bit if they were caught in
the act (Ok, I do have a problem with it still, but a much smaller
problem) but can't see how kicking the shit out of someone then
dropping them off with plod makes the perpetrators any better than
the miscreant. I'd actually argue that the UK legal system seems, at
times, to value property much more highly than the person and that
the beating is/was a more serious crime than the theft. I can
understand why someone would get really pissed off, esp if the
perpetrators were seen to be 'getting away with it', but has it
really come to the situation where it is deemed OK for mob justice to
be meted out on a whim, just because someone knows a group of big
thugs?
I suspect it's one of those subjects where arguing won't change
anyone's views, but being on the receiving end of CPS bullshit might.
I've been there twice, both times cost me a very large amount of money
given what I had at the time, & both times the CPS wouldn't even take
it to court, even though the scrotes were caught virtually red handed.
It nearly happened again a couple of year ago, but I was older & wiser
this time & bombarded my MP & the chief constable with letters. Had
they not changed the CPS' mind, I would undoubtably have sorted things
out myself.
