The amusing thing is that, in all the invective, there's a grain of

There is?

Oh yes, absolutely. SteveH has this glorious blind spot when it comes
to Italian cars. I find it amusing, because while I know sweet FA about
motors generally, my limited experience (and that of a few other
people) has been that Italian vehicles have... *issues*. And I
currently steward two Italian motorcycles, remember.

But, rather as Champ intimated he did, a couple of days ago, I find
Steve's dogged championing of Alfas, Fiats and the like, rather
endearing. The world, and ukrm, needs this sort of quasi-religious
devotion.

And, returning to Italian bikes (and Ducatis in particular), my own
experience of my 750SS suggests that there are some decent solid ones
out there. Maybe I've been lucky.

OTOH, I think Bear knows rather more about motors generally. Or seems
to - it's hard to discern how much of his transmitted wisdom is down to
personal experience or a combination of hearsay, the press, his own
fertile imagination, and FOAFs. But I certainly absorb his
four-wheel-related posts.

I find it all a bit pathetic tbh. At least 3/4s of my brain
shuts down [1] when the inevitable hurling of useless insults starts
*yet* again. The pair of them should know better.

From where I'm sitting, the insult-hurling is very one-way, and I
commend SteveH for his forbearance.

[1] the level of intellect in the argument only requires minimal brain
power and it would be horribly unfair on my brain to fill it full of
such unmitigated rubbish.

Oh indeed.
