A colleage who recently passed her driving test bought an old banger
and said that it would get stuck in 4th gear. Upon questioning her
about what 'stuck' meant she said it wouldn't move at all. I was
doubtful so had a drive around and the gearbox would perform normally
until it got stuck in 4th. The stick was stuck solid into 4th and if
I'd have pushed any harder I'm sure I'd have snapped it off. I guess
this 135mph Beemer being 'stuck' in a gear is a possibility, but that
still leaves plenty of options to get the car stopped.

1) Turn the key to the 'Accessory' position and let it wibble to a
halt over the following 59 miles.

2) Slam on the anchors like you mean it and wait for the engine to
stall if the gearbox is jammed into 5th/6th gear when you get down to
about 40 surely the engine should be below idle speed and then just
stall wibble to a halt? Dunno how an automatic would do this - but if
the gearbox was 'jammed...'

3) Slow the car down to below 80, program the time machine to take you
back to a time when it were all fields 'round 'ere, flick the the Flux
Capacitor to the 'on' position and let it get up to 88mph.
