OK my name is jeremy and I have never dabbled with ICS. Does this
require 2 NICs? I presume it must in order to place the machine running
ICS between the ADSL router and the internal hub.
But I don't see any specific references to multiple NICs even on this
introduction page:

ICS - needs 2 NICs?
Why don't you just get a modem/router with more that 4 ports - or a
wireless router with some of the less performance critical boxen
attached using wi-fi?
Well the ADSL router is supplied by the ISP so they support it - which
is a good thing in my opinion. It has 4 ports and I have four allocated
public IP addresses. I am running a 16-port hub at the moment and, in
all other respects, am happy with the netwrok set-up I have (although
actually would like to run a DHCP server to simplify adding new devices
to the wetwork - but that's a another issue altogether). Seems the
easist solution to being able to take the xsisting "gateway machine" out
of the network temporarily is to either
1) connect the ADSL router directly to the hub after enabling the
firewall features
2) Add an extra NIC to a "spare" win2k machine I have and set-up ICS.
Option 1 may be the simplest.
Probably in either case I guess running ZoneAlarm or Sygate Personal
Firewall on all the windows boxes on the LAN as an extra safeguard.
