I don't mind going pillion on the back of someone that I know is fast,
it's being sat behind someone who isn't a fast rider but feels
obligated to try to show me how good they are.
Examples of this are Champ taking me round the TT circuit when I was
more than slightly pissed, great fun and not at all worrying. Alex
Ferrier taking me round the TT circuit in the rain and showing me that
his ABS worked, great fun and not at all worrying, Ace trying to keep
up with Champ through about 50 miles of hairpins in France, great fun
if a little worrying (1). Numerous other people taking me on the back
and making me wish I was the one riding the bike.
(1) Triumph lard arse with panniers versus gixxer thou. The Triumph
lard arse was dragging its guts on the floor almost every corner we
came to. I wasn't in the slightest bit scared but I did think that
sooner or later Ace might lose a footrest due to them making horrible
noises on a regular basis.
