My housemate was in when NTL installed the connection. The fitter
recommended connecting the cable modem directly to his laptop to enter the
account settings into the modem flash memory.
Once this was done the router was connected to the cable modem and the
network was live.
As BiL has NTL already installed and presumably working then all of the
required settings are in the cable modem. Simply plug the cable modem into
the router and all should be hunky dory. As his PC must be adjacent to the
NTL modem at the moment I would hardwire the router into his PC, log onto
the settings page and sort out the security stuff before activating the
wireless bit (as I can't remember if the wireless transmitter is active by
default).
