My ex was very phylosophical about the sentence imposed on the young lad
who killed her late husband. He didn't do time inside, he was fined
1000ukp, banned for 5 years and made to retake his test. He suffered
from night blindness, which was a factor in his defence, so he'll never
be able to drive after lighting up time.
She seemed to think that due to his previous good character, he was a
Venture Scout etc, that the senetence was fair. He had written to her
personally to explain how deeply remorseful and sorry he was and how the
whole incident had made him grow up very fast.
