Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, doetnietcomputeren <doesnotcomputeDELETE@xxxxxxxxx> typed
Champ suggested:
Given the fairly bizarre failure nature, my bet would be on the black box itself.
this was checked by the outfit that sorrted it last. Both with a freezer spray and a change of black box - in fact I suspect he didn't bother to switch the black boxes back round after changing them - cos there's a white label on this that I don't recall seeing before.
the only cdi's on ebay are used ones in Merkia for 150 bucks plus shipping - I hate to think what a new one would cost.
I probably should also mention that after he (allegedly?) traced the issue to the coil - the bike did run absolutely fine, for considerable distances. Then the weather turned a bit shit [tm] and I had use of a car, so I did. all that happened in between was the immobiliser eating the battery, requiring a jolly good optimating (over night was sufficient). And now the problem appears to have recurred.
Get the immobiliser removed.
Really.
