Personally, I'd look at the 156JTD (The 2.4 5-pot is exceptional, but
even the 1.9 4-pot isn't too shabby in 16v form). But that's a style
thing.

GM buy in the Alfa / Fiat JTD engine these days, so the Saab will have
the 1.9 16v JTD lump most likely.

If you prefer your cars Saab shaped with Saab quality and reliability
it's probably the best option for you as you still get what's probably
the best diesel lump currently available.
