We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Ninja Stevie"
<stevie.holmes@xxxxxxxxx> saying something like:

Indirect injection (when on a diesel) is when the fuel is injected into
a small pre-combustion chamber adjacent to the main combustion chamber.
It was common on all diesel engines up until about 20-odd years ago,
then was mostly dropped in favour of the direct injection design where
the fuel is injected directly into the main combustion chamber. There
are advantages to the DI method; economy, easier startup, emissions,
power. DI engines tend to be noiser though.
