What is actually required is to be able to edit some DVDs

They are in .vob format and need editing to produce dvds with the
crap cut out

IYSWIM

You can split the video and audio, and then use editing software that (attempts) to edit both streams at once (and usually miserably fails).

Better to use software that can edit the multiplexed audio/video single
stream.

There's shed loads of them out there, they all vary on how long a clip
they can edit, what formats they can load/save, biassed to pro editing
or playing around with fade effects & voice overs, etc.

So, rather than trawl through dozens of them, are there any free ones which are heads above the rest ?
