I have for my sins just acquired a 400/4 "rolling chassis", spare
frame[1] and a box of bits. I haven't had a close look at it yet to
make a complete list of what's missing, but it's quite a lot -
noticeably mudguards, tank, seat, lighting, carbs, front caliper +
master cylinder, exhaust and clocks.
Oh phuck, it's missing pretty much *all* the expensive bits.
Can you supply me with any of the above at a reasonable cost? I was
thinking a gummed up carb set if you have one, to keep my ultrasonic
cleaner busy.
Well, I've got a tank and sidepanels that I was going to put on ebay
tonight - given how much I paid TOG for a better set, I'd be willing to
let them go for around 120 quid and throw in a set of carbs for free
(they're worth as much as you'd pay for them though).
I -know- it will cost me loads to restore it, more than it's worth, but
at least it would keep me occupied.
If there's anything worth flogging left on it, break it and sell. It's
not worth the hassle, especially as most of the really expensive
unobtanium bits are missing.
Actually, if you want a more viable project that's legal and rideable
but will need some work and expense to restore it (well, if you want to
do it properly, a full stripdown) and has *all* the unobtanium bits on
it like the correct grab handle, tool tray etc. I am/was planning to
ride this to Chimay and I may well do that but I'm so short of space
that it really, really has to go. I'd even do you a good price for
it[1].
OTOH I guess I could just flog it on. The worst bit about it is that
it's been kept outside "for a couple of years", and they left the plugs
out :-(
Fuggeddaboutit. It's *dead*.
[1] About a hundred quid less than I paid for everything - say, 850? TOG
reckons it's worth about 900-1000 as is.
