At the National Motorhome Show I was looking at the trade stands
selling solar panels and battery equipment as I would like to be able
to stay on the CL type sites for longer without resorting to mains
electricity.
The solar panel sellers seemed to agree that an 80w panel would more
than suffice for my needs. However, I have measured my van, AS Symbol,
and I can't get an 80w panel on the roof.
At the Roadpro stand I was advised that I should fit a 'Battery to
Battery' (B2B) charger first. This would ensure my leisure battery is
topped up fully and therefore will last longer. Apparently both normal
mains chargers and alternating charge only puts about 60% of the
maximum capacity into the leisure battery.
I have scanned the newsgroup and although solar panels are a recurring
topic I have not found any info on battery to battery chargers?
Therefore all advice recommendations about the Roadpro B2B charger
greatly received.
I would also like thoughts on the best system, B2B or solar.
There's info on these two links
http://www.marcleleisure.co.uk/Sund001/SplitCharge01.htm
http://www.marcleleisure.co.uk/Sterling/SterlingBatToBattCharg01.htm
You'll find the B2B units are better value than solar panels, especially if
you use your van on a daily basis.
BTW, you'll find the Sterling stuff on the above sites are generally cheaper
than buying direct from Sterling.
