Just a thunk. Would one of these or something similar sharpen carbide
inserts if you made up a mandrel for it for the lathe or mill? I have my
faithful old Cronos diamond cup wheel but the edge is a tad rounded so you
need to dig into the insert a fair way to get past the radius and achieve a
sharp edge on the insert. These blades are presumably very sharp edged so
hopefully you could just lick over the tip of an insert with them. Diamond
is diamond after all so I guess if it'll cut stone it'll cut carbide.

No Dave they don't work.
I had the same idea a while ago when diamond wheels were expensive but
the smaller 4" tile cutter were cheap.
I had to buy a new tile cutter disk anyway so fitted onto a small
grinder I keep for licking tips up.
Not good results as the diamond isn't smooth and it bounces the tip
about and chips the edge.

Mind you decent diamond wheels are now that reasonable that it's not
worth messing. I have a small 3,000 rev doubled ended motor, not a
grinder, that i have 4 wheels mounted on permanent. A cup and a plain
wheel on each outer end and a couple of thin knife edge type mounted
inboard for things like nicking the inner cutting edge of end mills
etc.

If you stick to 100 mm wheels they cost about 10 quid up to 17 quid
from ARC depending on type.

With some of these inserts costing 5 to 7 quid a pop you can soon get
your money back if you only get one new lick per insert.
