Well just been down to W.H.Smitt Gmbh and paid my 3-3/4 groats for the latest copy of MEW
and frankly I'm appalled.

In it there is a whole page of Editorial presented by the new guy David Clark on Health
and Safety issues arising from past articles.

If this isn't enough we that have Harold hall rabbiting on for another whole page [ with
some replies from others ] again on H&S issues.

Can NO ONE BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS ANYMORE ??

Why do we have to be dictated to by the health and safety police from the snug confines of
our garden sheds that don't even come under reg's.
It's about time someone stood up and said enough and told these fucking do gooders to piss
off.

One of the issues was the copy of MEW that had Dave Fenner's daughter stood at the side of
a Myford lathe. Their concern was she has long hair and baggy clothes ????????

It was a staged photo for ***'s sake. You see near naked models stood at the side of a 32
tonne Foden but no one asks if they have a HGV license.

The only thing that made any sense to me was the mag is getting thinner and none of the
people moaning about H&S issues is known to the mag as a writer of articles.
Perhaps if they had to venture from the confines of their baggy armchair and work with
something greater than a blunt pencil we might all be better off.

Wanker's the lot of them, it's a pity their dad's weren't !

Be fair John, David's editorial seems to be trying to say what you are saying.
He specifically says that the photo was staged and mentions the cropping of
photos so as to not show the beer cans in his workshop. When I first read the
editorial a few days back and when I re-read it just now, I got the distinct
impression that it was a subtle reply to the holier than thou brigade.

Mark,
That's true but purely by mentioning it that gives more ammunition to the flat earth
brigade, who are more like trolls than trolls have any right to be.

ME from what MEW was spun off has been going for over a hundred years and it's not cropped
up before as widespread as this. I dare say it has but we have never known about it.
You can just imagine the past editors puffing on their pipes, having a chuckle and binning
the letter.
We, as the paying unwashed public, don't know what goes across their desks but if less
content was spent addressing these petty issues there would be more ME content.

Getting onto ME content.

In the past ME had paid contributors like LBSC, ETW and others who churned content out at
a remarkable rate, remember it was a weekly then. But for them to churn this out there had
to be a market and there was.
Joe Blogs would come home from his shitty little boring job, peck Gert on the cheek, quaff
his snap and disappear into his shed for the night.

Now fast forward 30 years.

Where are the paid contributors ? and more to the point where is the market to support
these?

Unlike past generations who had limited funds, lack of travel, no 24 hour shopping and no
bloody IKEA we can't spend hours in the shed / garage/ spare room / workshop [ delete as
required ] because of pressures of work, travel, having to maintain all the trapping of
life we have dotted around up.
"Can you put me a hook in the wall dear to hang this dream catcher on ?"

Dream catcher ?? For ***'s sake how did they get that by Consumer protection ?
How do you know it works ? If you find something hanging off one is a dream or a cobweb?

Anyway I digress, not content with having a nail belted into the wall our intrepid hero
now has to drag down to Do-it-all / The Depot / Wickes / Ikea / Wilko's [ delete as
required ] and spend the whole afternoon shopping with the result he returns with about
three weeks work and other projects like bird baths / slabs / decking / fencing /
pagoda's [ again delete as required ]

Now multiply this up and down the country and you can see what a state we are in.
If the Russians had worked this out 10 years ago and nuked Do-it-all / The Depot / Wickes
/ Ikea / Wilko's [ delete as required ] they could have took the country over whilst we
were still wandering about trying to return the trolleys.

Point is it boils down to what you read is what someone other than you contributed.

And yes I'm as guilty as the rest.
I promised Dave Fenner a couple of articles and they never appeared due to pressures of
work etc and any other lame excuse I can dream up..

DID YOU CATCH IT???????? damn................

I wonder if I can get me money back?

By the way. When do the great unwashed see the articles on the Stevenson
toolpost and gear hobbing on the mill/lathe/shaper/HSE official?

The toolpost was published in ME back in 1990 I think.
The gear hobbing etc has been written but like a lot of my work needs remaking in a format
suitable for the ME.
As an example I have written an article on a cut knurl tool which works brilliantly,
unfortunately mine is built into a quick change holder of my own design and make so for
Joe Blogs this is totally useless.
It needs remaking onto a piece of 1/2" square so it can be adapted to any lathe.

Same for the hobbing, mine is based round a stonking big Victoria universal mill and there
are many of these around so this has been written [ got to do some thing when you are
dragged away screaming and kicking on holiday, - how can it be a holiday when you can go
two whole weeks and not fall over a single machine tool ? ] but needs transposing onto a
vertical mill.

David Clark is also chasing these articles, so in retrospect we only have ourselves to
blame. The more we post the more these dipshits from the H&S brigade will get pushed out.

I blame Reliant's, if they hadn't brought that stupid 3 wheeler out none of these twonk's
would have found their way around the country to breed....................
