Re: Help with dividing plates

Charles,

What on earth do you think that everyone is dodging
giving a finite answer?

Clearly, the answer is "number crunching". Whilst 127 is the almost
exact number, you can get away with 63.
You can get away with 21 and if your Imperial leadscrew is knackered,
you could probably fiddle the result without bothering.

If you recall, I did suggest Martin Cleeve's Screwcutting in the Lathe
and I did recommend old Chaddock and each go into the realms of
arithmetic in realising just how many permutations were locked in by a
gearbox and how many were available- if the cogs were not fastened in.
If yet another guru took a book and preceding articles in both Model
Engineer and Engineering in Miniature to do it, you must forgive us
here for avoiding the issue.

Again, David and I are amongst those who have merely dabbled our feet
in the the Jordan or the Ganges.
With tongue in cheek, I did give the origins as best we know them.

Oh, and Pelmanism, there are a series of books. I have them- somewhere.
