I'm after advice.
Yesterday, my boy told me he has a gf. This is nothing new, he's a good
looking lad! But he's just turned 11 and usually his gf's are just
that...friends that are girls.
Well, after telling me who his gf is, and me saying, "oh yes, I know who
you
mean....isn't she about 13?" He said she's 11 same as him, but I don't
think
she is. But I do know that's she's streets ahead of him in maturity and
very
streetwise. He's a young 11.
Anyway, he said, "I've kissed her" and was grinning from ear to ear in a
way
that suggested he felt all grown up now and rather proud.
I asked "Where?" meaning whereabouts on her person. He said, "Behind the
bushes."
After laughing, I told him I meant where on her face he'd kissed
her..."her
cheek?"
He said no, he'd kissed her on the lips...and her cheek. And that she'd
kissed him back and they'd had a cuddle.
AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!
Aha, I remember this!!! The time to worry is when he stops talking to you
about it. Keep your reaction casual and matter-of-fact. Re the special
needs, do not trust any reports from a LEA Educational Psychologist. Get
your own from an independent expert and find a legal adviser experienced in
Education. Trust me, I know! In my case the root cause was dyslexia + high
IQ = big time stress. Could be lots of root causes e.g. allergies, but I
guess you've already looked into everything you can think of. And look
further ahead - 'normal' as in conformity is no guarantee of success in
later life. You may have a budding dynamic entrepreneur on your hands!
He's got a head start; he's got you on his side and it sounds like you have
a great relationship.
BTW sex ed CAN start too early. At 8 my oldest twins saw a film at school
which the head assured us would not give us any problems. The boy was
concerned that 'they look a bit tight round there' and the girl stuffed a
dolly up her little sister's dress and made her give birth, stirrups and
all!!!
Good luck
