A good example:

Not mine, BTW. It's from news:alt.fan.goons Henry Crun and Minnie Banister
are two of the characters from the highly steamed Goon Show, played by Spike
Milligan and Peter Sellars respectively - or was it the other way round. No.
They probably played them facing the audience.

Scene: Supper time. Two old pensioners. The old fellow is having terrible
trouble with his memory. I know how he feels!

Henry: "Don't move Minnie. I'll get the supper tonight. What would you
like?"

Minnie: "You'd better get a pencil and paper and write it down, Henry. You
know how bad your memory is."

Henry: "Oh there's no need for that. It's not that bad. Now, just tell me
what you'd like."

Minnie: "OK. If you're sure. How about a nice cheese omelette with a side
salad and a nice big mug of tea?"

Henry: "OK. I'll get it right away,"

(He disappears into the kitchen. He's in there for about an hour and Min's
getting worried. Just when she's about to call out he appears with two nice
plates of chips, sausages, beans, mushrooms and tomatoes and a couple of
tins of beer.)

Minnie: (angrily!) "See? I told you to write it down you old fool! You
forgot the fried bread!!"
