Raised bed sizes for climbers.

A question to the more experienced.
I have been trying to reclaim the 6 lost years of my son's very small garden. I intended to pea shingle it rather than keep the poor bit of grass that still remains. The garden is really tiny, about 12 foot by about 36 foot. I could put a small patio in one corner and perhaps a circle of slabs in the middle with some bigger pots.
I don't like to put trellis onto the neighbour's fence so I thought I could make raised beds along at least one side using either scaffolding planks or similar sized wood and put a trellis onto the back of the beds.
Then I could put climbers in rather than come into the garden space.
He wants to sell the house quite soon after he gets married next April so I am trying to get a dressed appearance if I can.
Not good with design so wondering if other people might have some ideas.
Trying to convince him to allow me to paint the fences with a sage/grey colour to disappear under the trellis.
(He hasn't got a clue about all this and I am enjoying a blank canvas and I do have a lot of plants I can put in large pots etc.)
