It is not 'just' a ng. If someone calls you a liar, a troll,
threatens you, doubts you, abuses you and refers to you as
'drunken' and 'idiotic' I think the person on the receiving
end of this wouldn't feel too good.

That would greatly depend on whether it happened to be true or
not.

hint:most people shouldn't feel too good about demonstrating
the
language skills of an eight year, old while claiming to be
University
Students.

The standards of language skills on usenet are not exactly very
high

Fair enough. For "language skills" let's substitute "conceptual
apparatus"
then.

I often tailor my suits according to the cloth, on UseNet as well.

I quote -

"if anyone could possibly help us by registering and making some
nice
posts about plants,"

" even some general information you feel would be nice for our
project.

So at what stage in their conceptual development would you
normally
expect children and young adults to abandon concepts such as
"niceness", then ?

The point being that a generalised concept of "niceness"
pre-supposes
a set of shared values, which most adolescents spend all their
time
questioning, and very often abandoning.

You know; given a choice between their supposed rudeness (as
perceived
by
you) and your reaction to them, I think they behaved better.
That is a purely personal viewpoint but there you have it.

...

Who said anything about "rudeness" ?

I find it totally incongruous that University students should
use terms such as "nice" if they're being completely genuine
that's all.

This is now surreal.
Your whole objection to them is their use of the word "nice"??
You think they should have thought more carefully about what word to
use
but
by using the word "nice" they
have completely mislead thousands of unsuspecting gardners?
I have read that dreadful offensive offending sentence 10 times and I
really
think you are over-reacting (that is me being polite).

Feel free to be as impolite as you wish Des.

You may or may not wish to claim long time acquaintance with
Usenet. In which case you may or may not find what follows
to be insufferably patronising. The choice is entirely yours.

One feature of Usenet Des, are "trolls". Regardless of
whatever definitions you may read in Online guides, "trolls"
are merely insincere posts or posters, often designed to
elicit a voluminous response from other sincere, posters.
Basically it amounts to winding people up, with quite
tangible results by way of lengthy responses.
As indeed may be the case here.

In which case you have been trolled; grow up.

No Des, you were the one who was trolled, it would seem.

Unless of course you're in cahoots with those lads from Dundee.

Not that you'd know anyone associated with Dundee Universtity
yourself of course.

Dear, oh dear, oh dear, curiosity, plus a very bad memory
seem to have got the better of you, it would seem.

Now please go away before I mention the lap-top.

I'm not the one who had a lap-top computer stolen, containing
3 years worth of work which I'd never ever bothered to back-up
in all that time.

And boasted all about it, on UseNet.

So which particular prize were you aiming for with that
one, then eh Des?
