well here's one for you Judith Lea, when I was a child growing up in
Nashville (yes, THAT one) my daddy was the coffee salesman for American Ace
coffee and tea company. He went to all kinds of restaurants in middle
Tennessee and Kentucky. I was his shotgun buddy on several of these runs
being an only child and a daddy's girl (at the time). I remember we went
somewhere in Kentucky where dad was repairing a coffee machine, and I met
this crotchety old man who smelled kinda funny. He was laughing and
bragging about how he had been smart enough to steal the receipe for
seasoning his flour for his fried chicken from his *** cook (excuse the
useage of the word, please, I am quoting the moment.......) and that all it
was, was she used to take a package of Good Seasons's Italian dressing (it
comes in a carafe, you mix the oil and vinegar and the package of spices
depending on what kind of salad dressing you get) into her flour, add a
little more pepper and put her chicken parts in it. The old codger's name
was Harlan.......and yes, it was the "Colonel". you would be amused at some
of the stories I have from growing up in the mid fifties and sixties in
Nashville...................granted, KFC does have good chicken, but I had
to laugh my *** off when they used to run that animation with him break
dancing. I knew the old coot was turning in his grave, because he was the
most bigoted, prejudicial *** you'd ever have the pleasure to
avoid................don't let the sweet old man image fool you. I was up
close and personally in his space. (he didn't really like kids
either..............that cane was used a lot of times to stump a toe of a
kid that got in his way). So now you know the secret of the 12 herbs and
spices.......<gbseg> and one of my first jobs when I was a teenager was at
a Kentucky Fried chicken. I can make chicken like you can't imagine.
another secret to their chicken is after they fry it in the hot oil (the
best is done in a black iron skillet <g>) you put it on a pan that's been
lined with a brown paper bag that is set at 350o F and let it continue
cooking while you fry the rest of the yardbird.............
madgardener Southern to the bone
