What would you say are the biggest concerns in the equine world today, what
concerns you?

1)    Welfare, ie live transport for meat, slaughter, sales, Amersham for
example
2)    Too much breeding
3)    Too many people buying horses that they do not have the knowledge
4)    Too many so called "experts" who really are not
5)    Quick fix gadgets on the market - more harm than good
6)    Not enough quality riding schools
7)    Not enough or bad independent instructors
8)    Too many inexpericend riders entering events that they are not good
enough ie XC/HT/SJ accident waiting to happen (driving licence equivalent?)

Hi julie

IMHO the whole start of problems comes from number 6 and 7 -not
enough quality riding schools and decent instructors- from this stems
no 3 too many people buying horses that do not have the nec, skills or
know how. This leads to problems number 4, 5 and eventually 8. This
then leads to horse being deemed unsuiitable and flogged at the local
auction.
problems 1 and two are of course linked but could only really be
resolved through changes in law ie licensing breeding stallions thru
Gov. and NOT breed soc. - this would never work in a million years.

In other countries you have to take a test before you can compete in
affiliated competitions - also there are far far too many unaffiliated
competitions every week in uk - how many of us over the years have
gone to hunter trials and being disgusted with the standard of fences
and going?? - we maybe had the experience to say 'no thanks I'm going
home' but many people do not have this knowledge (or their parents if
they are kids) and thats when accidents happen.
