If you had a horse for a couple of years, and gradually lost confidence
and ended up not riding it, the horse was still relatively young, would
you keep it. Even after spending time taking up Parelli then not using it
(think it was an excuse for not riding) then basically finding a field and
dumping said horse in it and only visitng it to throw hay over the fence?
After all that would you keep it for the sake of it or would you be
practical about it and think that its best place is with someone else who
can do something with it (not that there is a problem with the horse at
all)
It does depends a bit on the horse.
For most I would find it a home where it would get more - more company, more
activity, more "lurve"!
There are some who, as long as they have at least one other equine, and have
all they need can be fine as pasture ornaments.
One scenario I can think of is a native breed pony who doesn't enjoy being
kids pony but is not big enough for most adults.
They can be harder to place well in a forever home, and usually very happy
to go feral !!
