Not all hens are as lucky as yours Jill and it will only take a
minute of your time ;-)
Yup -- its like all the others - unresearched.
Being outside for a hen is NOT all that.

erm - better read the campaign site jill before going off on one - its
campaigning for CAGE-free hens and specifically states a preference
for BARN or free range.
And asking telling people to
a.. Buy free range or organic eggs.
a.. Only buy processed food that contains free range or organic eggs
And for public sector bodies to immediately cease puchase of cage eggs
Putting 40million birds in barns is totally unrealistic and will CERTAINLY
result in the most appalling animal welfare
If you do not understand why battery units were started in the late 1800's
you cannot start to understand the requirements to have 40 million plus
birds in production in this country -- and I am not including the table
birds which is many many many millions more a year
..
Following CIWF's ten-year campaign animals are now legally recognised
as Sentient Beings in the EU and an animal welfare Protocol was added
to the European Treaty so someone is taking them seriously Jill ;-)
As I said, political.
There are a lot of things being laid down by the EU impacting on every
sector of business which are completely and totally illogical and are
contrary to good practise.
Anyway -like you say - not for this NG - people make their own minds
up - personally I would rather go without eggs than buy caged hens
eggs, however 'well' they had been cared for, and have done on
numerous occasions.
You are fortunate enough to have that choice. I respect that.
I respect that others are not. I also understand how chickens are, not some
anthropomorphic interpretation as I hear day in and day out from every
source of the media, and bodies exactly like this one.
