So apart from the cool mix and top spec and chop what can I give to
give him a little bit more weight to set him up for winter?
LOTS more fibre - start today - more hay and something like Hifi
You have FAR too little fibre and far too much hard food for a horse that is
not working hard.
Unless he is competing or working hours a day he need quality fibre not lots
of grains.
Call Dengie and talk to their nutritionist about him and his needs
Then Call Dodson and Horrell and on the basis of what Dengie say - ask them
for any hard feed requirement - you may not need it but their Ultimate
Balancer would probably be a great idea
grass there is (a reasonable amount again now actually) and a tiny
feed of a scoop of Dengie Hi-Fi and a sprinkle (i.e. a fraction of a
scoop) of Pasture Mix once a day. When the grass was totally dead and
gone in July we started feeding them some hay but no more Dengie or
Pasture Mix. Our two are big 16.3hh horses by the way.
