Coincidentally we had to put down our veteran livery who I mentioned in
posts a couple of months ago. She had recovered from the colic and breathing
problems but yesterday morning was panting at 85 breaths per minute and
running a 104 temperature. Her belly muscles were locked up solid and heart
racing. In discussion with her owner we felt it was kinder to let her go
rather than try to push her through another round of veterinary treatment
with no guarantee of improvement. The vet put her to sleep and we buried her
in a corner of our own land so she is not ending up in a maggot farm.
The hole this has left in our lives is devastating but we do know she had a
good life to the best of our ability and her owner while heartbroken has
taken some solace from that.
