What is it like for an English man looking for a job in Holland?? Are
there
any positions for english speaking only??
I think it shouldn't be difficult to relocate to other EU countries,
but speaking Dutch might indeed help finding a job here. Though
relatively speaking, probably a fair number of people speak English
here to some degree (a lot of english on tv and in movies).
I still expect that speaking Dutch would be advantagous. Can't see too many
positions open to non Dutch speakers and rightly so in Holland.
I only speak English Currently but i guess i would need to at least learn
Dutch. Is Dutch hard to learn??
I've got some Dutch courses for on the computer. I also love learning
languages... working on French and German at the moment.
I think if you're motivated and you have the right methods (like good
language learning software), it shouldn't be too hard. I have many
resources for that, like dictionaries in Dutch, audiobooks in Dutch,
etc..
Is there a learning package you recomend on CD or DVD?? What are you using??
I'm sick of the UK and it's ridiculous cannabis policy so am looking to
get
out.
I think it might be a better plan to try and change things from the UK
and strive towards more fair and effective drug policies on a European
level, like via www.encod.org
With all information online these days, the government can't keep
scamming their citizens for much longer I reckon.
I hope this is true. I have moved around a fair bit and have lived in
mainland europe before it just seems more relaxed than here. I'm lucky i'm
IT qualified. It means i'm on most skilled worker lists for most countries.
As you say though it would be nice if things changed here in the UK.
I heard some stuff about the Ductch government looking to block other
nationals from using the coffee shops. Can't see how this would be legal
if
used against EU citizens. I wouldn't want to go to the effort of moving
to
Holland only to find that they strengthen their relaxed drugs laws.
Well, there are stupid politicians in government now that seek to
portray themselves as being 'tough on drugs' and 'protecting the
children'. So they want to close down coffeeshops (at least the ones
near schools) and smoking will probably be more restricted in shops
(in separate areas) soon. Also, they say they might want to ban
growing up to 5 plants for personal use in the future, which is still
sort of tolerated now.
On the other hand, there seems to be a majority of parties that
support the coffeeshop policy and want to regulate the production of
cannabis to break the link between coffeeshops and organized crime.
But conservative forces still have managed to prevent experiments with
that so far.
So it's a bit uncertain how things will develop in the future, but I
don't think it's likely they will close down all the coffeeshops and
try a more repressive approach.. just tighter regulation it seems.
I hope they manage to break the link. I couldn't get over it when i found
out that the wholesale supply is still illegal. It just gives a legal outlet
for organised crime. Clearly some coffee shops will covertly grow there own.
There will be some organised crime presence though.
..
It anoying because the UK is a great place to live apart from this.Who
knows
maybe there will be a backlash against all this prohibition nonsense.
