It's interesting that so many people do this.
I prefer to arrange things so that the cars I'm responsible for get
serviced half way between two MOT dates. This means that they get some
form of professional check-over every six months - useful for picking up
relatively minor things early that you really want to get fixed before
they cause bigger problems (e.g. split CV boots).
Of course, if you're doing enough miles that you have more than one
service a year, then the point is moot.
