Mike P formulated the question :

You've just said you flash people who are in your way who are
sticking to
a speed limit. What's the difference between them and those on a
limiter?

I suggest you put your spade away.

The difference is that they are driving by their speedo, which
likely could be indicating several mph low

It might be. It might not. How do *they* know if they've no sat nav?
Mine is accurate up until 70mph anyway. They could be erring on the
side of caution. It's a speed *limit*, not a target anyway..

and also likely they do not know
how to maintain the vehicle at the speed they are aiming

You aim for targets, you keep to limits. Didn't they teach you that
at the IAM?

- so why obstruct those who can, when there is an empty lane to their
left?

That's not what we are discussing. We are talking about your habit of
flashing people to get them out your way.

The flash is to let the other driver know you are there. It is up to
the other driver if they move out of the way or not.

It says in the highway code
you should only flash people to alert them of your presence.

A vehicle who is not using a clear lane to their left and is blocking
traffic from passing, NEEDS to be made aware of your presence.

Neither
I, nor most other people I know would take someone driving up behind
me and flashing as anything other than "get out my way". Certainley
not a friendly "hello, I'm here"...

Then you are having trouble understanding a very simple rule in the HC
- 110 Flashing headlights. Only flash your headlights to let other
road users know that you are there.

"I am here". So what? How do you want them to act on that information?
By getting out of your way yes? Two different messages.

No, one message only - I am here. The other driver can stay where they
are or realise they are blocking the road.

Funny that, somewhere in this thread you stated "I am here and wish to
pass"
