What does this line mean? Not the dropped kerb lines that are in
millions of NG posts, but the ones that sometimes go for miles along a
rural road. In my town I see one that is a few yards long where there
are speed humps.
OK they obviously discourage parking, but are you tickettable if you
actually park on them?
They're nothing to do with parking (which is restricted by the requirements
of the Highway Code in any event). The edge line is just there to mark the
boundary of the road more distinctively. In some other European countries
(notably Germany), it is very rare to encounter any stretch of road which is
not so marked, usually equipped with position marker stakes as well.
Many thanks everyone. Now for the important bit, wish I could post a
photo here. This stretch of road had a white gutter-line 10 yards each
side of a speed hump. At each end of the white line is a "No parking
on the verge or footpath" sign. Before this line is a gutter/kerb
UNMARKED and un-signposted. Any ideas why I got a ticket for parking
BEFORE the lines/signs?
I am appealing the fine to the fullest extent on the grounds that the
CEO did not know what he/she was doing of course. Its like seeing a 30
mph sign 100 metres ahead & being nicked 50 metres before the sign?!
I was parked on the kerb on the unmarked/unsigned stretch
Up the Kerb
.
