In practice, of course, slowing for lights is a completely nonsense
unless you know there's a red light camera there. Otherwise, if it
turns amber and you're in two minds about whether to break harshly or
go through, then you just go through.

If you're doing the speed limit and you've reached the point where you
aren't 100% sure you can stop, then there's definitely time to go
through before the lights turn red.
Absolute 100% rubbish.
The amber phase at most lights on my way to/from work, are not set long enough for the 50mph speed limit - you would either go through on red or be doing an emergency stop.
