You said 270 degrees of vision, you get around 50 degrees of vision through a mirror, but you still cannot see through your vehicle. You mentioned a 2" gap to reverse into, why can you not still make use of your mirrors for this?
Because the cab is on an angle to the trailer. If it weren't there'd be
no problem in the first place.

Lets see now...

You are reversing through a narrow gap with 2" spare, at an angle such that you cannot see the the tail end of the trailer at all though your mirrors. We are suggesting three cameras on the trailer, so you can see down both sides of the trailer and one at the tail. You suggest they would not allow you to see enough detail to be able to reverse with that level of accuracy and the display would cause you extra confusion anyway. There are none so blind as those who want to be.

Maybe I'm just a slow learner or maybe I have a mental block to doing it back-to-front, learning where to switch over from counter-steering to steering the right way, and how much to steer based on what I can see. ... Remember a car with a small trailer is much more difficult to control in reverse than an artic, because they react so much faster to the wheel. ... If I use my mirrors I can see if I start to drift too close to one side or the other but I have to stop and think "so which way do I have to steer to correct this". ...

I still find it difficult to reverse using only my mirrors, whereas reversing by looking over my shoulder is much easier when I can see rear and both sides the right way round through the rear/side windows rather than mirror-image of only the left and right sides of car. ...
