The spring is only used as a parking brake or an emergency fail safe system, normal brakeing air is introduced to apply the brakes via the foot valve, control feel is totally unlike a hydraulic system and takes some getting used to, pedal travel is tiny.
Ahhhh. Is that why you see the HGV rocking under braking in certain very low speed manoeuvres, eg backing up to a loading bay? Looks like the brakes are pretty much fullon/fulloff.
Weight shift under brakeing at low speeds causes the air suspension to react, what you see is the damping motion. Club footed drivers don't help.
