Ok, your driving experience is 150K. Mine is 1.6 million - over ten times as
much..
You know, I just knew that if he answered your question, this bit of
willy waving would happen next.
What does that tell us?
Apart from giving you the chance to show off a bit more?
It certainly doesn't say I am better than you. It doesn't give any
indication at all of skills learnt. What it does show is exposure to
incidents and experience.
What it shows is that you've driven over 10 times as much distance as he
has and nothing more. I've encountered many drivers who have
undoubtedly driven more distance than I have, whose driving is
absolutely ***. What counts is what you've done in that distance to
critically examine your driving and how much driving you've been doing
with the new information.
Out of your 1.6 million miles, how many of them have been PCV, how many
RoSPA Gold, how many DSA, etc? Note that's a rhetorical question, I'm
not interested in the numbers, but pointing out that bandying around
total distance driven is only one variable in the equation of being a
good driver. Someone could have driven 1.6 million miles after passing
the DSA test many years ago, and not only _not_ kept up with current
thinking, but picked up numerous bad habits, making them more of a risk
to other road users than someone who is taking their DSA test in two
weeks time.
Pity the average car driver thinks they are gods gift and have nothing to
learn. You appear to think your gods gift with nothing to learn - your
arrogance and inexperience shine through with every sentence.
On the contrary, your simplistic attitude to skill and quick dismissal
of someone who you perceive to be a 'lesser' driver than you is quite
apparent, at least in here. I really hope you don't take such an
unhealthy attitude onto the road, but, from your generalisation below, I
fear that you do.
Take a look at this video
[...]
I apologise if others see this as bragging, but you come across to me as an
immature and arrogant person. You have no repsect for others views, you have
no respect for others experience, you apparently know it all after 150K
Not bragging, but incredibly smug and didactic. The corollary is that
without doing what you have done, a driver can not have as much respect
or commonsense as you have, and that is very insulting. Your remark
about "apparently knowing it all after 150K" really shows the way you
perceive yourself as a benchmark of great driving and look down your
nose at anyone who hasn't done the same or who disagrees :-(
