Nope, definitely no "gratuitous insult" there. Merely one - far from
impossible - option. She may have gone on to be a happy, productive
member of society. I don't have a time machine, nor do you, so there's
no way we'll ever know, is there?

Looking at the evidence, 3 years old, 45 year old grandfather, I'd say
you were probably right.
