Is there a law on the number of people allowed in a car. I have a
five door escort and was wondering if I could get away with 3
adults and 3 small children but cannot find any information about
any passenger limits.
To answer your question:
Despite what others have claimed you won't be breaking the law
providing all the seatbelts in your vehicle are being used. (Safety
and insurance concerns are something else)
The government's website gives you advice on the best way to "pack"
your car in the case that you have more passengers than seatbelts.
http://www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/campaigns/seatbelts/pdf/251.pdf
Hope this is helpful.
That deals with wearing seatbelts, now provide info regarding that
passengers must be properly seated.
Eh?
It's *you* who thinks there is such a law.
Therefore you provide evidence that it's against the law to stick 4
passengers in the back of an Escort (assuming you didn't just make
this up too).
Are you saying that it's not necessary for each passenger to have a
proper
seat to use?
I am saying that I cannot prove that a law does not exist.
Easy. Lincolnshire Police carried out an operation a few months back
where they spot checked PLG class vehicles. Some van drivers were
prosecuted for carry passengers without any seating.
We were not talking about van drivers who have 20 Chinese illegal workers
hiding in the back.
We are talking about a situation where 4 people (i.e. 3 children and an
adult) are sitting on a backseat. Brimstone says that this is not allowed as
the 3 seatbelts in that backseat correspond to 3 "individual seats", and
therefore a fourth person would be illegal. I think it's highly dubious, and
Brimstone can't provide any evidence of the law he claims exists.
At least try and keep up though, eh.
