I was.

You made two mistakes in your reply to the OP.

I was not only correcting your comment about the use of seatbelts but
also (and more importantly) there is also nothing in law against
transporting more people in a *private car* than there are seatbelts.

Therefore your post was totally misleading, so I corrected it. i.e.
to help the OP.

No, you're simply being a pedantic prat.

rather that trying to show everyone how clever you are.

Oh please. It was you who replied without putting brain into gear.

It was sufficiently in gear to deal with the question whereas you are in
"auto" mode and trying to be clever - whilst failing miserably.

The fact is that it's not illegal for 4 people to travel in the back seat
of a private car which has only 3 seatbelts.

You told him he was breaking the law (yet have not managed to provide
evidence of a single law he would be breaking).

Even the government's own website will tell you that it's not against the
law.

http://www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/campaigns/seatbelts/pdf/251.pdf

So in pointing this out - -i.e. something which is the 100% opposite of
what you claimed, - you deduce I'm trying to be "pedantic" or "clever".

You're just an ignorant fuckwit, (yet again) spouting forth about
something you know nothing about.

You are right as it says
"Seat belt wearing law currently does not prevent you from carrying more
passengers than there are seat belts and restraints, but the way in which
passengers are carried must cause danger to any person in the vehicle. Do
not overload the vehicle. If you have to choose who rides without a belt or
child restraint, remember that heavier passengers can cause greater injury
to others in an accident than lighter passengers can."
