Like I said, thin end of the wedge.
First get people to swallow your little lies, then make then slightly
bigger, as long as you keep saying it enough times, no matter how
ludicrous, if nobody contests them, they will get believed, no matter
how big.

Like the one about speeding being the worst thing you can possibly do as
a driver. There was a front page article in the Telegraph a week or so
ago about a guy who managed to rack up 31 points(!) but kept his licence
(as it would cause "undue hardship" if he lost it). The fact that he had
only once been done for speeding was mentioned several times in the
article and used by his solicitor as a justification that he really
wasn't a bad driver and should be allowed to keep driving...

Exactley. It is a well known propaganda technique.
