Me too and if you can get the councils to stop slapping white paint on them

I would not try to get away with driving at 50 in a 30 on the basis that other routes elsewhere are limited to 70 (which is an exact analogy).

Even the writers of the new Highway Code thought it an excellent idea until
more experience cyclists got them to change their minds under duress.

Whatever that may mean, it can have precisely nothing to do with the intelligence of cyclists (which you have impugned). I don't think it's a matter of cyclist stupidity (even if you insist that it is exactly that). I think it's a matter of pure and naked self-centredness.
